MPs re-open commissioning inquiry

Big Ben The Health Select Committee is to revisit its review on commissioning in England in the light of Liberating the NHS reforms.

The cross-party group believes the inquiry can contribute to the White Paper debate, following the original critical report from just four months ago. The committee has outlined its terms of reference and it is seeking views on a number of questions, including:

how will commissioners access the information and clinical expertise required to make decisions about the shape of clinical services?
how will GPs engage with their colleagues within a consortium and the wider clinical community?
how open will the system be to new entrants?
where will the 'buck stop' when commissioners face hard choices?
what will be the role of the NHS Commissioning Board?
how will resources be allocated between commissioners?

The deadline for submitting evidence is 6 October.
