PCT — board meetings

PCT board meetings

Membership of PCT boards is public knowledge and NHS influencers should ascertain who the various board members are, as well as the membership of the various sub-committees. The regular board meetings are open to the public and as part of their account management plans for each PCT, NHS influencers must consider attending their local PCT board meetings. These are not only a good way of finding out what is going on, but also a good way of meeting and networking with PCT board members.

The dates of the board meetings are available from the PCT offices. Some PCTs may send you the board meeting agenda in advance and this is an excellent way of preparing for any attendance. You will not normally be able to contribute to the meeting and will be there as an observer. The board may go into private session, at which point you will be asked to leave.

The role of non-executive directors

Non-executive directors (NEDs) get involved in many PCT subcommittees and working groups, and could be involved in some key PCT areas of relevance to pharma companies. As such they might be factored into PCT account management strategies.

NEDs are supposed to be the voice of the local community and their job is not to run the business; it is more to challenge and monitor.
