Performance management targets

The NHS Plan, a ten-year programme of modernisation, is the driving force behind most NHS initiatives at the moment. The current mantra from health ministers is delivery, delivery, delivery. NHS managers are therefore subject to a huge proliferation of performance management targets.

Locally, NHS influencers have a tremendous opportunity to position the clinical outcomes of their medicines, promoting products within this context. If NHS influencers can show that the greater use of a particular product can aid in the implementation of NHS targets (eg, NSF standards, emergency re-admissions, etc), enormous benefits will accrue to both the company, the NHS and to patients.
