The role of the medical director

The medical director is the most senior doctor in the hospital, in terms of both clinical and management responsibilities. The relationship between the medical director and chief executive is critical in the effective management of the trust.

Likewise, the relationship that exists between the medical director and consultants is extremely important. The medical director will have a key role in ensuring the implementation of NICE guidance and guidelines, and the achievement of relevant NSF targets and milestones.
